SUMMARY:Compro Auri in the Subway
DESCRIPTION:Compro Auri or Buy Auri is a nod to the underbelly marketplaces formed in the on and offline worlds. In New York\, this underbelly black market may be most evident in the corners of the subways\, where small vendors sell their wares at an ever-increasing risk. Bringing the audience out of the gallery space\, Compro Auri will be performed in the subways. This workshop is lead by Giuliano Obici.

SUMMARY:Performance-Lecture on Noise Collector
DESCRIPTION:This event sees Choi explain the process of Noise Collector\, activating each part of the mechanism. Choi will reveal more politically charged aspects of the project in light of the Occupy Wall Street movement and in the wider context of recent international social movements. The workshop will be a hands-on experience for participants to use the Noise Collectors by engaging with local spaces and soundscapes in the Bushwick area. This workshop is lead by Taeyoon Choi.

SUMMARY:Soundwwwalks
DESCRIPTION:Soundwwwalks are an emerging genre of live browser-based performances using &lt;embed&gt; improvisation\, plug-in sound collage and multi-tab mixing\, shamelessly blending the traditions of pro-surfing\, Soundwalk composition and laptop music. The performances take the audience on a sonic detour through the World Wide Web. A Soundwwwalk considers the act of surfing the World Wide Web as a form of sonic action in the networked space of the Internet\, a place where multitudes of sound sources\, sonic events and acoustic phenomena converge. All performances follow the Soundwwwalk One-Line-Manifesto: “All sound sources must be played in a browser\, must not be self-produced and must be publicly accessible.” The artists perform their Soundwwwalks in person on stage or transmit the notation\, sometimes in real time\, to a local interpreter operating the browser. The performance series was initiated in 2009\, inspired by the world wide web becoming the largest possible library of sonic artefacts and recordings\, considering any sound and video file uploaded to the web as potential but fluctuative material for sonic ideas and actions. This workshop is lead by Bernhard Garnicnig.

SUMMARY:Screening of Erkki Kurenniemi’s “The Future is Not What It Used To Be” <br> followed by discussion with Tom Richards and curator Lisa Baldini
DESCRIPTION:Tom Richards makes a conscious choice to reference the visual vocabulary of past technologies\, and in so doing\, satirically comments on the present zeitgeist of gadgetry. Said zeitgeist was in its infancy when Erkki Kurenniemi was developing his practice and DIMI instrument series\, which has since influenced artists\, musicians\, and scientists alike. In foregrounding Richards’s work with Kurenniemi’s\, let us remember that The Future Is Not What It Used to Be and reflect on how and why we got here. This workshop is lead by Tom Richards.

SUMMARY:I, Bacteria
DESCRIPTION:I\, Bacteria explores the system of the body through data sonification. Bacteria are an integral agent necessary for our body\, our system\, to function. What happens when we choose to play with that system? We do this everyday by choosing what to eat\, which has certain affects. This will begin our exploration into the body’s ecology. This workshop is lead by Stephen Fortune.

SUMMARY:Key Note Speech: On Failure and the Ontology of Code
DESCRIPTION:Screening Lutz Dammbeck’s The Net: The Unabomber\, LSD and the Internet Code of Contingency tackles numerous seemingly related and yet unrelated topics: failure\, programming\, sound\, action-oriented learning\, oral/aural cultures\, quantum mechanics\, and critical pedagogy to name a few. On the surface what one has to do with the other may seem tangential at best. For exhibition curator Lisa Baldini\, this all contributes to the ontology of code -- where it’s been and where it’s going. All of this has been preempted by the creation of cybernetics. Believing that it is always important to understand critical jumping off points in thought\, Baldini will screen parts of The Net: The Unabomber\, LSD and the Internet in tandem with her lecture. This lecture is lead by curator Lisa Baldini.

SUMMARY:Indeterminate Hikes+
DESCRIPTION:With their new Indeterminate Hikes+ app\, ecoarttech will be leading impromptu hikes throughout the weekend\, departing from 319 Scholes\, as well as scheduled hikes at the following times: Friday\, June 1:  7pm Saturday\, June 2:  2pm\, 4pm\, and 7pm Indeterminate Hikes+ is a mobile phone app that transforms everyday landscapes into sites of bio-cultural diversity and wild happenings\, and the bascamp.exe installation psychically prepares hikers for IH+ wilderness excursions. Most of us use our smartphones as instruments of rapid communication and consumerism. IH+ reappropriates this technology as a tool of environmental imagination and meditative wonder\, renewing awareness of the places we inhabit and slowing us down at the same time. The app imports the experience of wilderness into virtually any place accessible by Google Maps\, encouraging its participants to treat these locales as spaces worthy of the attention usually accorded only to nature\, such as canyons and waterfalls. Visit the IH+ website to learn more and view the latest hiking trails pioneered by IH+ hikers: http://www.ecoarttech.org/indeterminatehikes. For more about ecoarttech\, visit: http://www.ecoarttech.org.

SUMMARY:Genesis Project Artist Residency
DESCRIPTION:Genesis Project is a month-long artist residency program catering to body-based artists who identify as working between disciplines and/or seek to integrate other disciplines into their performance practice through individual experimentation and open-source collaboration. Six artists from around the world will travel to Bushwick and live in double-decker bungalows designed by Terri Chiao to cook\, collaborate\, and exchange ideas 24/7. The aim of Genesis Project is to re-imagine the format of artist residencies. Genesis Project facilitates an environment wherein creativity is the act of investigation rather than production. The residency offers 6 artists work space for daily practice. It is the intention of Genesis Project to sharpen the potency of each artist’s daily practice while advocating the exchange of increasingly necessary interdisciplinary skills. Participating artists include:  Sarawut Chutiwongpeti\, Paolo Cirio\, Jesse Darling\, Fitzgerald &amp; Stapleton\, Arturo Vidich\, and Jody Wood.

SUMMARY:Anomalous Warmth
DESCRIPTION:Anomalous Warmth showcases experimental music from some of the most forward-thinking performers. Running the gamut from free-jazz to prog-rock\, the series aims to assemble disparate lineups that share the common thread of improvisation and sonic innovation. Den Svarta Fanan Drawing from the playing field of no-wave\, hardcore punk\, free improvisation\, and what may only be deemed ‘Heavy’ music\, Den Svarta Fanan summons a music anew. Conceived as an audio therapy session for overcoming social anxiety\, Den Svarta Fanan consists of Nonoko Yoshida\, Joe Merolla\, Weasel Walter\, &amp; Ron Anderson. With a nod to nasum as their namesake heeds\, this band of veterans and young minds contradictorily conjure up a grand sense of serenity\, wherein the listener can sit back\, relax\, and let procession of the daily grind pass them by with that rare kind of grin of affirmation; knowing\, understanding\, embracing the finer moments of human progress… Lou Reed &amp; Metallica? What next\, John Zorn makes a Christmas record? Mike Pride’s From Bacteria to Boys Mike Pride’s From Bacteria to Boys has gone through numerous line-up changes since its formation in 2005\, and Pride has now created a permanent quartet that performed together for the first time in February\, 2009 at Issue Project Room. Pride is known for his ability to work across a seemingly limitless number of genres and styles – he’s worked with artists ranging from Anthony Braxton to Boredoms to Millions of Dead Cops – and this quartet embraces Pride’s eclecticism. Inspiration for Betweenwhile\, their October 2010 album on Aum Fidelity\, came from R. Kelly (the album title is a phrase taken from Kelly’s epic Trapped In The Closet) as much as it did Miles Davis’ Milestones and new experimental musics. “I wanted a band that would take the most complex\, abstract\, esoteric and simple concepts at all times\,” Pride claims\, “and make an overall sound that was natural.” Saxophonist Darius Jones\, pianist Alexist Marcelo and bassist Peter Bitenc have worked with Trevor Dunn\, Nate Wooley\, Jim Black\, Weasel Walters\, Daniel Levin\, and Jon Irabagon\, to name only a few. Thoughtful Arthur is a group lead by Baltimore-born saxophonist and composer\, Eric Trudel. This group is both a compositional and improvisatory project\, seeking to explore the creation of compositions that inspire improvisation. Thoughtful Arthur includes several close musical acquaintances from Baltimore\, as well as several newer collaborators. Members of the group have performed or recorded with Michael Formanek\, Mary Halvorson\, Dave Ballou\, Darcy James Argue\, Ellery Eskelin\, and others. All members of Thoughtful Arthur are now based in Brooklyn\, New York. Meticulously balancing a thin line between melody and chaos\, Daphne Du Maurier has a penchant for jagged angles and gradually expanding mazes of sound that obfuscate the boundaries of composition and improvisation. A brutal and muscular document\, Their first album captures the raw energy the power trio has nurtured through intense live shows and demanding group development.
